Electricity and gas
Edison, owned by EDF, is one of the largest integrated energy companies on the Italian market.
In 2016, Edison's net electricity production in Italy totaled 20.4 TWh, i.e. 7.4% of Italian power demand, while the company's gas supply amounted to 14.6 billion cubic metres, representing 22.5% of Italian demand.
- Electric power production
Edison is one of the largest companies on the Italian electricity market. A highly-efficient and well-balanced fleet of power plants enables it to produce energy with optimum mix ranging from combined cycle gas-fired, hydro and other renewable energy sources.
The current generation fleet consists of 72 hydroelectric plants, 19 thermoelectric plants, 35 wind farms, 5 solar plants and 1 biomass plant.

- Edison, with 14.6 billion cubic meters of gas available in 2016, i.e.22.5% of the Italian demand, has an integrated presence in the oil and gas supply chain, from production to importation, distribution and sale of both natural gas and crude oil.
Edison is active in the exploration and production of natural gas and crude oil through 110 concessions and exploration permits in Italy and abroad: Egypt, Norway, Croatia, Algeria, UK and the Falkland Islands.

- Gas infrastructures
Edison plays a leading role in the development of new infrastructures to import natural gas for Europe and Italy.
The Adriatic LNG Terminal, the first offshore facility of this kind in the world, became operational in 2009. It imports eight billion cubic meters of natural gas a year, equal to 10% of Italy’s natural gas needs.
Other important projects under development are the Galsi gas pipeline, to link Algeria to Sardinia and Tuscany, the ITGI gas pipeline, to link Italy and Europe to the Caspian Sea region, and the IGB gas pipeline connecting Greece to Bulgaria.
- Renewables
Edison has been traditionally active in the area of renewable energy sources. Specifically, Edison's installed capacity includes 1,110 MW from hydroelectric power plants, 600 MW from wind farms, 13 MW from photovoltaic systems and 6 MW from biomasses system.
- Edison abroad
With 50 concessions and permits, Edison is active in hydrocarbon Exploration and Production in Algeria, Croatia, Egypt, Falkland Islands, Israel, Norway and UK.
In the electric power sector Edison operates in Greece through ElpEdison – a Joint Venture with Hellenic Petroleum – running 2 gas fired plants in Thessaloniki (390 MW) and Thisvi (460 MW).
